Directed and choreographed by Tony Award winner Jerry Mitchell, Legally Blonde officially opened at the Palace on April 29, 2007. The production will have played 595 regular performances and 30 previews by the end of October 19. Legally Blonde premiered in the West End on January 13, 2010 at the Savoy Theatre. It became one of the most popular shows in the West End, but finally closed on 7 April 2012 after 974 performances.
A national tour of the United Kingdom took place from 8 July 2011 to 6 October 2012. Outside the UK, the musical was also a great success. An Australian production opened in October 2012, and there have been international productions from South Korea to Sweden, Austria to the Philippines and France Panama. During the workshop phase of the musical, the song “Good Boy” existed in what would later become “Ireland” in the musical. She decides to sue Warner at Harvard Law School to show him that she is serious. With the help of Delta Nu`s sister Kate, she studies for LSAT and misses all the spring semester parties in the name of love. Instead of writing a personal essay, she bursts into Harvard admissions offices with Margot, Serena, Pilar, a group of cheerleaders, and the entire UCLA brass band to prove it`s Harvard material. Although she is rejected at first, she is finally accepted after revealing that she is motivated by love. The musical premiered on August 18. It was filmed in September 2007 in front of an audience live for television, as well as on two other dates where it was filmed without an audience. All three edited performances aired on MTV on October 13 and 14, 2007, with additional airing dates on November 3 and 14, 2007. MTV`s involvement in the musical continued with a reality show called Legally Blonde: The Musical – The Search for Elle Woods, which aimed to hire the next actress to play Elle Woods on Broadway.
